Chlorosis by Portland Black Lipstick Co.

And now for an unusual color:

Chlorosis Lipstick by Portland Black Lipstick Company

When a plant doesn't have access to particular minerals, it may become unable to produce chlorophyll and takes on a pallid hue; this is chlorosis, the green sickness.

Although the color of the lipstick in the bullet is a warm, yellowed green, on the lip it took on more of a pallor. Much more appropriate to the name, I thought!

Yum! Undernourished leafy goodness. Also, felt really nice on the lips: dry and light.

Cool color!

Git sum.

Gilded Lily by Portland Black Lipstick Company

Next up:

Gilded Lily Lipstick by Portland Black Lipstick Company

"Gilded Lily" is probably a reference either to several early films or, I'm betting, to the Marvel supervillain of the same name, a tall, willowy woman sporting a golden mask and a kick-ass '20s bob. She was an alchemist who learned how to prolong her life by turning others into gold, and underneath her white coat she's a sort of golden robot on wheels! Pretty awesome.

A beautiful, warm, glittering gold...

As with all the Portland Black Lipstick Co. products I've tried, this lipstick feels just lovely on! It's very slightly sheer, so it gave my pout a pretty golden glow. Gold lipstick seems like a crazy-night-out-on-the-town sort of affair, but I would actually wear this out during the day!

Metallurgy by Portland Black Lipstick Co.

Alright, next up: Metallurgy

Yes, Metallurgy, the science of doin' stuff with metals. And this lipstick is most certainly doin' stuff. Look at that gorgeousness.

The PBLC website describes it as a "unique lipstick... forged from black, green and gold colors to produce a truly unusual metallic experience." Agreed!

Loveliness. Here it is on my lips:

As with all PBLC products I've tried so far, the lipstick goes on opaque yet feels light and nice on the lip, moisturizing even! And with all those yummy ingredients (see the end of the original PBLC post), I feel great about having this stuff on my face =) I'm really excited about this color; it looks way better on me than I thought it would!

Finally, I leave you with this hilarious XKCD comic I found:

Enjoy.

Chthonique from Portland Black Lipstick Co.

Ohhhhkay, here's the first of like a million PBLC swatches!!

We're starting with one that Kim Damio, the head of the company, says is brand-new, so look out for it on the website: http://portlandblacklipstickco.com/

Great name! "Chthonic"refers to underworld spirits or deities, particularly in the ancient Greek tradition.

Kim described it as a metallic green. The color is simultaneously earthy and other-worldly, underworldly. Beautiful.

On the lip:

It feels so nice, moisturizing and not sticky at all once blotted a bit! I applied with a brush and then augmented with the bullet a little, and the coverage is fantastic.

 And the full effect:

Yussss.

And you're welcome for the crazy hair.

Again, keep your eyes peeled for the color debut here:

Mega Portland Black Lipstick Co. Haul!

Woooo! MegaHaul!

Well, things have been a bit rough the last few months, so I decided that an unreasonably splurgy indulgence was the way to go. Also according to Blogger's spell-check, "splurgy" is totally a word. Cool.

Amazing! I have been coveting Portland Black Lipstick Company colors for several years, so I decided to just FREAKING GET ALL THE ONES I WANTED! And they came a day early =)

Look at that label! So lovely! The visual aesthetic of everything I've seen from the PBLC is absolutely to die for.

Also the owner of the company, Kim Damio, sent me an email informing me of all the sweet samples I had coming to me with my order, including an entire tube of a new color, Chthonique, which I absolutely cannot wait to get on my face. As it stands, I currently have all the colors on offer from the website, minus Perfect Foil and The Secret of Invisibility, plus two others, Chthonique and Good-Bye Little Yellow Bird.

So here's the rainbow:

Yes yes yes. Yes yes.

Yes.

And now a slow pan:

From right to left because somehow that's making sense to my brain right now: Black (the color that started it all for the PBLC), Black Lagoon (dark green with a blue undertone), Pewter Cauldron (Duct-tape with bluish undertones), Metallurgy (black, green and gold), Gilded Lily (shiny, beautiful gold)...

... Chlorosis (insufficient-chlorophyll-green), Chthonique (subterranean green), Difficult Island (vivid aquamarine blue), Indigo Bridge (metallic blue verging on black), Artificial Amethyst (jewel violet)...

...Bug's Blood (real carmine!), Irony (warm, metallic red), and Bad Penny (strong copper).

And now for the generous samples:

From right to left because that's still how I'm feeling this somehow: Snow Queen (glittery white), Good-Bye Little Yellow Bird (canary yellow), This Corrosion (purified rust), Imitation Cherry (artificial red), Blood Red (disturbingly realistic), Undead Red (dark red), Coffee, Black (dark brown with warm undertones), and The Purple Cloud (end-of-the-world lavender).

Aaaaugh and the label is just too perfect! That's a natural white glitter sample poking out the bottom there.

And check out the ingredients list for these lipsticks:

Sunflower Oil, Castor Oil, Beeswax, Candelilla Wax, Coconut Oil, Lanolin, Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, and FDA approved colorants, like mineral pigments and/or carmine.

Yummy!

Get in on these colors! And stay tuned: lip swatches coming up.

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick: Tannin

Sephora description: poppy red

My rating:

The lipstick

The lip

Yummm, look at that gorgeous red (if you can see past my forehead shine)!!! Argh, I really want to give this one a full five lips rating, but it was sheer enough that getting the color to lie even on the lips was a pain! I think having the bullet instead of just a pallet would have helped, but alas, I had to work with what was available. It's also super high-gloss, which I'm usually not into, but for some reason it didn't bother me too much here. I wish it were more matte though, as with most of the other Bite lipsticks I've tried. Oh well, the color is spectacular, if significantly lighter in tone on the lip than the lipstick itself.

Rock a loud lip,
Azara

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick: Rosé

Sephora's description: peachy pink

My rating:

The lipstick

The lip

The lowdown

Rosé is a bit bubblegummy on the lip for my taste (and also for the actual color of the its namesake, I think), and it is also on the sheer side. That said, I have a soft spot for peachy tones, and even though my lip color, visible through the lipstick, cools those tones a bit, there are traces that I still like. It feels really nice and moisturizing on the lip, and is quite light and pretty non-sticky. A pretty solid lipstick!

Rock a loud lip!
