And now for an unusual color:

When a plant doesn't have access to particular minerals, it may become unable to produce chlorophyll and takes on a pallid hue; this is chlorosis, the green sickness.

Although the color of the lipstick in the bullet is a warm, yellowed green, on the lip it took on more of a pallor. Much more appropriate to the name, I thought!

Yum! Undernourished leafy goodness. Also, felt really nice on the lips: dry and light. 

Cool color!

Gilded Lily by Portland Black Lipstick Company

Next up:

"Gilded Lily" is probably a reference either to several early films or, I'm betting, to the Marvel supervillain of the same name, a tall, willowy woman sporting a golden mask and a kick-ass '20s bob. She was an alchemist who learned how to prolong her life by turning others into gold, and underneath her white coat she's a sort of golden robot on wheels! Pretty awesome.

As with all the Portland Black Lipstick Co. products I've tried, this lipstick feels just lovely on! It's very slightly sheer, so it gave my pout a pretty golden glow. Gold lipstick seems like a crazy-night-out-on-the-town sort of affair, but I would actually wear this out during the day!

Alright, next up: Metallurgy

Yes, Metallurgy, the science of doin' stuff with metals. And this lipstick is most certainly doin' stuff. Look at that gorgeousness.

The PBLC website describes it as a "unique lipstick... forged from black, green and gold colors to produce a truly unusual metallic experience." Agreed!

Loveliness. Here it is on my lips:

As with all PBLC products I've tried so far, the lipstick goes on opaque yet feels light and nice on the lip, moisturizing even! And with all those yummy ingredients (see the end of the original PBLC post), I feel great about having this stuff on my face =) I'm really excited about this color; it looks way better on me than I thought it would!

Chthonique from Portland Black Lipstick Co.

Ohhhhkay, here's the first of like a million PBLC swatches!!

We're starting with one that Kim Damio, the head of the company, says is brand-new, so look out for it on the website: http://portlandblacklipstickco.com/

Great name! "Chthonic"refers to underworld spirits or deities, particularly in the ancient Greek tradition.

Kim described it as a metallic green. The color is simultaneously earthy and other-worldly, underworldly. Beautiful.

On the lip:

It feels so nice, moisturizing and not sticky at all once blotted a bit! I applied with a brush and then augmented with the bullet a little, and the coverage is fantastic.

Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick: Valentine

Of all the Kat Von D lipsticks I've tried so far, this was the sheerest. I suppose the point of this color is not so much opacity as it is glitter, and I have to say, while the color is fine and I do enjoy a bit of shine, I am not a glitter-in-my-lipstick person. 

The look

I created a subtle block with Valentine on the bottom lip and Kat Von D's Lolita on the top. The colors are similar, although Lolita supplies more of a coral tinge while Valentine is a cooler magenta with a foiled shine and all those little sparkles.

Note: I love this color! I love the opacity too! The reason I'm only giving it four lips out 

of five is because the case broke, and that's an automatic point deduction.

Full disclosure: I'm in love with this color, I think it is amazing and everyone should have it. That said, the case broke without provocation, and now when I apply light pressure to the raised bullet with my lip brush the lipstick recedes back into its case like a recalcitrant turtle. Sigh. I had to dock points. But the color and opacity are fantastic, so all I'm sayin' is it might be worth a struggle with the hardware to get this stuff on your face.

The look

I created an odd ombre for this look, in which it moves from Forever & Never to Kat Von D's Rosary on the top lip and from Rosary to Forever & Never on the bottom. I quite like the look, and I think you should rock it too!
