Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick: Beranice

Sephora's description: metallic poppy red

The lowdown

I like the color, a nice, bright, shiny red. It looks fine on me, although it would probably look better if it were a bit warmer. I found I needed less of this lipstick to create a completely opaque lip, unlike some of the other Kat Von D lipsticks. It could be that the shininess of the lipstick reflects enough light that the lipstick appears to give full coverage with light applications, but hey, I'm not complaining!

The look

I blocked Beranice with Valentine, a bright sparkly pink by Kat Von D which you'll see on my top lip.

It is obviously a very subtle block, one that most wouldn't notice unless close enough to see the glitter.

The lowdown

Like many of the Kat Von D lipsticks, I found this one difficult to apply to a level of opacity that I liked. I could see that the brush often removed lipstick as I tried to apply more. That said, what a bangin' color! I absolutely love the strength of this red.

The look

I created an ombre look from bottom to top with Underage Red and another Kat Von D color, Forever & Never.

The lowdown

After brush application, Lolita needed a thorough going-over with the bullet itself, but once I did that the color was perfectly opaque and beautiful. I find that while I love them, coral is not always the most flattering color on me, and Lolita has a bit of that tinge to it. However overall I would recommend it, particularly to those who pop in corals!

The look

I blocked Lolita with Beranice, a shiny red Kat Von D lipstick.

The lowdown

I love the color and it lasted practically the whole day without a primer, although it was a bit sticky and I tend to favor a drier texture. The application was not as even as it could have been; I used a lip brush to put down a base, and ended up needing to apply the color directly to my lips with the bullet afterwards to make it as bold as I felt it should be. It felt a bit like I had to cake it on to get a really strong color.

The color looked deceptively brown in bullet-form, but came out a deep red color on the lip. I wish it had a bit more of that terracotta tone to it when worn because I think it would have made for an interesting lip; that said, I enjoy a good vampy look and in that sense, Rosary delivers.

The look

I created a side-to-side ombre from Rosary to Kat Von D's Lolita. I love this look!!

Red-Orange-Yellow Ombre

Today I did a subtle ombre lip from red to yellow. I lined my lips with a brick red, then filled them in with bright orange and finally blended yellow into the inner parts. What I love about going from a dark to a light color is that it makes my lips look full and pouty without using a stingy lip plumper.

Products Used:
 Too Faced Lip Insurance Primer
Illamasqua Lipstick in Howl (brick red)
Illamasqua Lipstick in Perilous (bold orange)
Ka'Oir Lipstick in Banana Milkshake (bright yellow)
Sephora Crystal Gloss in Forbidden Move

Everybody Ombre!!

Homemade Pastel Lipstick on the Lip 8

This is the final homemade post!

I decided to try lining the grey-blue with the deep blue, and it came out looking pretty nice...

If you would like to know how Rebecca and I made these colors, check out the post here. It is super cheap and easy and the payoff is huge if you're into mixing your own lipstick colors!
